Byun pockets Falcon Open Trophy

Joon-Young Byun stunned the field by winning the All-Orissa Falcon Open Golf Tournament at the Bhubaneswar Golf Club (BGC) course here on Sunday. South Korea’s Byun made a late entry but put up splendid performance to outplay all the leading golfers of the State for the overall title with a net score of 74. Babi Mishra finished runner-up, scoring 75.

City golfer Dalbir Singh won the best gross title with a card of 88. Tapan Mohanty claimed the top honour in the 0 to 18 handicap event, scoring 71, while Shailendra Upadhyaya emerged runner-up with a score of 77.
The prize for the longest drive went to Dalbir Singh, who achieved it by hitting the ball to a distance of 263 yards. Nearest to pin, another prize in the flagship tournament of BGC was bagged by Tapan Mohanty with a seven-feet-long putting.
The two-day tournament marked the debut of many new entrants. According to BGC golf captain Bhumi Mohanty, the sport in the state will experience a busy schedule next month with one tournament on each of the four weekends.
The series will start with a hole-in-one-club tournament on January 6. It will be followed by the Rotary Club
Tournament at the 120 Battalion here on January 13 and Paradip Port Trust All-Orissa event Paradip on January 20. The series will conclude with the East Zone Nalco Open Tournament here from January 25 to 27.
